13/12/2008Gogarth Guide has Arrived!

From the Ground Up publishing stable comes the eagerly awaited Gogarth North guidebook. In a break from tradition, owing to all the new information (over 300 new Anglesey routes) and the importance of keeping the book to a manageable size, it's been necessary to split it into two volumes: North and South.
This first volume covers all the routes on the awesome Main Cliff, Upper Tier, North Stack Promontory, Holyhead Mountain and Wen Zawn. Anglesey's little known limestone sport routes at Benllech and Fedw Fawr are also included. The sister guide, hopefully out around August 2009, in time for the lifting of the bird restrictions, covers the cliffs south from the South Stack lighthouse and around The Range to Rhoscolyn.
DMM's Graham Desroy (Product Development) and Simon Marsh (Climbing Product Manager) have been key members of the research team behind the guide. In a sterling display of thoroughness, Simon personally checked out every Main Cliff route, either by climbing or abseil-inspection, apart from Extinction! So you now know who to blame if any of those route descriptions aren't super accurate! Easter Island was Graham's pet area, filling in a few gaps he noticed along the way.
The book is not only bang up-to-date regarding content but also in design, thanks largely to designer Al Wiliams. It looks sumptuous with a clean uncluttered lay-out. At the back you'll find an in-depth history by Martin Crook. The mysterious upside down world of George Smith, has now been revealed for any climber with an eye for mind-boggling adventure. At more reasonable grades plenty of classics have been rediscovered.
V12 Outdoor have a special introductory offer on the book: all mail orders taken-in December 2008 will be sent out postage free.
