08/08/2008Summer Ball and On-Line Fund Raiser

Al is one half of the local climbing duo fondly known as the 'George twins'. However, during 2000 Al was diagnosed with a brain tumour and his work as a mountain guide has steadily become more limited as the condition has worsened. Not one to be held back, together with his partner Rachel, they set up the Italian style ice cream parlour, Georgio's, on Llanberis High Street. If you've been in the village on a sunny day you've probably been tempted through its doors.
Although Al has been undergoing treatment for over 8 years, the current medical options are having limited success in fighting the problem. Alternative therapy has been beneficial but it's costly. So the idea is to have a Summer Ball and Prize Draw with all the proceeds going towards helping finance the cost of Al staying at the therapy centre he's been attending.
You can find out all the details about the Ball (with an auction and live music) being held at the Conwy Centre (Anglesey) on August 24th and make reservations on-line by clicking
here. You can even make 'No Show' reservations if you wanted to come along but can't make it and have your name added to the
guest list.
The prize draw has some very impressive prizes including a week's accommodation near Chamonix, a weekend's stay at Glenmore Lodge for two, several climbing weekend's with a British Mountain Guide, a £500 voucher for any services offered by Mountain Tracks (experts in mountain adventures) and a workshop with Johnny Dawes. The prize draw is open to anyone (Paypal or cheque). You can buy a ticket on-line and discover what you are likely to win
here.
Al and his twin brother Phil have been involved with climbing and outdoor activities since their youth, both studying Outdoor Education at Bangor and attaining degrees in 1984, before going on to qualify as International Mountain Guides in the '90's. They have pursued careers in the outdoor world, working for LEA outdoor centres, National Centres and as freelancers currently based in North Wales.
