26/11/2009Purrfect New Female Harness

The Puma, DMM's first female tailored climbing harness is on its way! The initial batch should be ready to go out to the shops next week.

A great deal of effort has gone into getting the sizing, waist-belt shape and rise (crotch to waist distance) configured specifically to suit the female anatomy.

Generally, the rise between women's leg loops and the waist belt is longer. We’ve had the ladies at DMM, friends and sponsored heroines involved throughout the design process.

Top British climbers, Lucy Creamer and Silvia Fitzpatrick, have been testing the Puma and they were very impressed by its comfort. Lucy comments included: "When being lowered or abseiling the harness retains its shape well. Good fit and doesn't feel too bulky. Really like the number of gear loops - the seventh one at the back is very useful." Silvia really liked the new structural webbing legs which she felt spread the load better on stances and in falls.

The Puma is essentially a dedicated female equivalent of our top-of-the-range Renegade, it is an all-round harness which excels for bolt clipping, trad routes, and winter days out. As per the Renegade it features adjustable leg loops and a Hypalon ice screw racking system and the floating waist belt.

The Puma comes in three sizes (XS 23 - 28 , S 27 - 32, M 30 - 35 inches). Although the Renegade works well as a unisex harness, DMM felt that taking into account the ratio between the hips and the waist on women, a dedicated harness was warranted.
