Belay and Abseil Devices
As with all other areas of climbing and mountaineering kit, you need to choose the right tools for the job. We have three different belay devices, the Bug, V Twin, and Bugette. Each one has its own merits, but its important to use them in conjunction with the right diameter ropes.
The Bug has been a stalwart of the DMM range for a number of years and its popularity continues with those working with medium to larger diameter ropes. With skinnier ropes the Bugette is the way forward. Weighing a miniscule 26 g, it’s a super light belay device ideal for Trad climbing or Alpine routes where weight is an important factor.
Three abseil devices, the standard Figure 8, the Cardiac Arrestor and the Anka, are all popular with groups and activity centres. Hot Forged, fully Heat Treated, vibrated in ceramic chips until they are silky smooth, they are also anodised to help prevent corrosion.
All of the above can be used with the ingenious Belay Master carabiner with its plastic clip which prevents the biner from crossloading, allowing you to concentrate fully on the task in hand. Lighter now due to its I Beam back, the Belay Master retains its good gate opening and forgiving rope radius, making it a perfect partner for any of our belay devices.
