Phantom

The Phantom is our super light carabiner and we are rather proud of its specification - it weighs a meagre 26g and we have both kept it large enough to be functional, and made it super safe with 3 sigma 9kN gate open strength.

The Phantom is the ultimate carabiner for trad and alpine climbing - the weight saving it makes on a big Gogarth rack is remarkable.

The Phantom moves I-Beam hot forging technology to the next level by using a new, stronger 7000 series alloy and a bespoke wire on the gate that shaves off the extra grams whilst allowing us to maintain ergonomics and strength.

All the standard DMM characteristics are present: a customised wire gate that pulls into the nose under load, a rope groove, a fully anodised finish and the 'even tension' gate.

We have kept the rope radius at a friendly 8.5mm so that it loads ropes, wires and slings across the widest area possible.

The Phantom is available in 7 individual colours and also a 5 pack containing red, blue, green, gold and purple carabiners. This allows climbers to colour code their cams and other equipment for easy recognition.

Features:

  • I Beam construction for strength/lightness
  • Wire gate less likely to freeze up in winter
  • Hot Forged
  • Rope groove to locate rope correctly

Reviews:

"When you pick them up, they feel ridiculously light. Even in comparison to the last generation of wiregates that weighed in the mid-30 gram range, these feel light and are basically half the weight of many of the classic krabs of the 1990s. They are also very strong with a 9kn gate open strength."

"When you are pushing your grade on long mountain or sea cliff pitches, lighter gear helps you carry your courage with you; allowing you to take those extra pieces that might be the difference between doing the crux, or backing down psyched out by it."
